How the rates work

Source. Rates are the European Central Bank euro reference rates, retrieved through the Frankfurter API with the ECB selected as the only provider.

Timing. The ECB publishes once per working day, normally around 16:00 CET. These pages check for a new rate every 15 minutes. At weekends and on TARGET holidays you will see the previous working day’s rate, with its date.

Cross rates. The ECB quotes every currency against the euro. Pound-to-dollar and dollar-to-pound are worked out from those two euro rates, for example GBP/USD = (EUR/USD) ÷ (EUR/GBP), and the reverse direction is always the exact inverse.

Rounding. Rates are shown to four decimal places and converted amounts to two. The calculation itself uses the unrounded rate.

What it is not. A reference rate is not an offer to exchange money. wlthy does not transfer or exchange currency; use these figures to compare the quotes you receive.

If you hold money or assets in more than one of these currencies, the wlthy wealth tracker can show them together as a single net-worth figure.

Currency converter — common questions

Is this the rate I will get from my bank?

Probably not exactly. This is a reference rate: a mid-point benchmark. Banks and payment providers quote their own rates around it and may charge fees on top.

Why do the rates not move during the day?

The European Central Bank fixes its reference rates once per working day. They are meant for information and comparison, not for live trading, so they do not change minute by minute.

Is the amount I type saved anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using the rates already on the page. The amount is not added to the address bar, sent to analytics or stored.
